Gov. Evers Announces Health Care Coverage Partnership

Gov. Tony Evers, the Office of the Commissioner of Insurance and the Department of Health Services announced last week a Health Care Coverage Partnership aimed at boosting health care insurance enrollment, through both the individual market and Medicaid.

The Partnership will:

  • Educate consumers by promoting HealthCare.gov and using insurance agents and navigators.
  • Engage with stakeholders, including health insurance companies.
  • Continue to work to expand Medicaid. (Note that the Joint Finance Committee removed Medicaid expansion from the state budget in their first executive session, and Assembly Speaker Robin Vos (R-Rochester) has stated that Medicaid expansion is “#never” going to happen.)
  • Support individuals with Medicaid coverage and help people transitioning from Medicaid to private coverage.

In response to the announcement, JFC co-chair Rep. John Nygren (R-Marinette) said he agrees with Gov. Evers’s goal of connecting more people to insurance coverage but continued to oppose the governor’s Medicaid expansion proposal.
